Visual Timetables

How do you use your class Visual Timetable?

A visual timetable is something that you will find in most primary classrooms, and is a useful aid for all children. But are you using your visual timetable to it’s full potential?

Use our checklist to find out!

Visual Timetable Checklist

  • My pupils help to make my visual timetable by drawing or selecting symbols for key daytime events
  • My visual timetable is at child’s eye level
  • The children find it easy to remove and add symbols to my visual timetable
  • I have a blank card which I can use when there is an unplanned or spontaneous event
  • My visual timetable is consistent with other classes’ visual timetables, e.g. they are all horizontal/vertical, they use the same symbols
  • I refer to my visual timetable often throughout the day, especially at the beginning of the day, and the beginning and end of activities
  • Pupils take turns to take symbols off the visual timetable
  • I have considered having mini timetables on pupils’ desks for them to refer to
